According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a 25-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Sugarloaf Parkway late on Tuesday, May 17th 2011. Debris recovered from the scene of the accident suggests that the vehicle was a late-model Dodge Ram, though authorities have not yet been able to discern the color. The driver failed to stop after the collision and fled the scene. Authorities are currently looking for leads as to the driver’s identity.
Atlanta pedestrian accidents can occur on several accounts. A driver’s reaction time may be slow if he or she is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, distracted by talking or texting on a cell phone, or suffering from exhaustion or fatigue. If a motorist fails to abide the speed limit, the vehicle may not be able to slow down in time to avoid the accident. It’s important to remember that inclement weather can alter the effectiveness of a vehicle’s brakes.
Insurance companies often conduct their investigations quickly, and many accident victims rush to accept a settlement offer. The extent of many auto accident injuries, however, may not be fully recognized until weeks or months after the crash. Therefore, if you or a loved one have been injured in an Atlanta pedestrian accident, it is important to consult an Atlanta car accident attorney before signing any documents or accepting any offers from insurance companies. Our attorneys will evaluate your case for free.
