Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents in Atlanta. While distracting phone calls, text messages and e-mails are a large part of the problem, several technology companies have put an effort into developing smart phone applications which will help motorists in Atlanta and across the county drive without distractions. In honor of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which was set for April, our Atlanta car accident lawyers are listing three free cell phone apps which can help prevent distracted driving and hopefully reduce the number of Atlanta car crashes caused by cell phone use.
Text No More: A free app, Text No More is available on the Android and Blackberry markets. In an attempt to put an end to texting and driving, the app offers rewards for safe driving. Before driving, the user will activate the app and set their estimated driving time. Once the app is turned on, the user will be sent a reward which will be held in their database until it is redeemed. During this time, the Text No More app will disable all notifications, prevent the user from sending texts and hold all incoming texts. When a text is received, the app will send a standard reply along with a reward coupon. The user can then claim their reward by visiting the Text No More sponsor, which will scan the barcode in the user’s reward voucher right from their smart phone.
Drive Safe.ly: Also a free app, Drive Safe.ly will read the driver’s text messages and emails aloud in real time and automatically respond without requiring the driver’s touch. The app features a one-touch activation, optional customizable auto-responder and Bluetooth and radio transmitter compatibility.
On The Move: A free insurance-sponsored app, On The Move replies to text messages with pre-customized responses. The app provides canned responses or allows users to program a custom message which is sent when the app is enabled. On the Move is a free download on the Android Market, but may soon become available on the iPhone and Blackberry.
Our Atlanta car accident attorneys hope these innovations will lead to a generation of safer and technology savvy drivers, and ultimately, a decline in auto accidents caused by distracted driving.
