A Georgia moped accident left a rider seriously injured on the morning of September 14, 2011. Jason Herod, age 34, was struck by another driver as he proceeded southbound on Sardis Church Road in Moultrie, according to a report in the Moultrie Observer. The driver of the car was reportedly charged with multiple offenses, including driving with a suspended license, failure to yield, probation violation, and DUI less safe, meaning police will need to testify to his inebriation, as opposed to it being supported by evidence blood alcohol test.
As is the case with many motorcycle-passenger car crashes, this Georgia auto accident occurred at an intersection, in daylight. The sequence of events is, statistically, one of the most common involving collisions between bikers and cars. The driver of the automobile was making a left turn from the northbound lane and reportedly failed to see the moped rider heading straight down the southbound side. The car driver turned into the cyclist’s path, hitting him with the front end of the car and ejecting him from his bike, an all-too-common result of motorcycle-car collisions.
Two-thirds of these types of Georgia motorcycle accidents are the fault of the car driver, who often fails to see the rider of the motorcycle or moped. The car driver in this accident reported no injuries, and was taken to Colquitt County Jail. The motorcyclist was not so fortunate. Luckily, he was reported in fair condition at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville on Thursday, where he was transferred after receiving emergency medical attention at Colquitt Regional. Nevertheless, it is overwhelmingly the bikers who sustain the most serious injuries in these types of accidents. Riders injured in a Georgia motorcycle accident should consider retaining the services of an experienced Georgia motorcycle accident lawyer who specializes in these types of claims, as we do here at Morgan & Morgan.
