A 48-year-old woman has been charged with a number of offenses after swerving into the emergency lane of the highway and fatally striking two teens on Thursday, according to My Fox Atlanta. Earlier this week Antonious Biship, 16, Octavious Sorrels, 17, and another friend were walking on the side of Highway 138 on a trip to buy tea when a car reportedly veered into the emergency lane and hit the teens, dragging them an estimated five hundred feet. Biship was pronounced dead at the scene, Sorrels was later pronounced dead at Grady Hospital and the third teen is currently in critical condition.
The driver is being charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of homicide by motor vehicle, driving under the influence, hit and run, driving with a suspended license, lacking proof of insurance, a red light violation and obstruction of a police officer. After her red car careened into a ditch, the driver reportedly tried to walk away from the accident. The accident scene was allegedly strewn with clothes, shoes and markers for evidence. Toxicology tests are pending, but she later admitted that she was under the influence of medication while driving, according to reports. The driver has a preliminary hearing set for September 1.
